In 1974 a group of Mohawks left their homes on reservations and occupied a defunct girls camp in New York’s Adirondack mountains. They established a community they called Ganienkeh, where they aimed to practice a more traditional lifestyle. Ganienkeh is a rare example of an indigenous people successfully reclaiming land from the United States.
This Land is a short documentary film produced by Big Slide Creative and directed by Mike Bradley. It has played at dozens of film festivals in 2025, including Tribeca. Learn more at thislandfilm.mov
