The untold story of Ganienkeh, a Mohawk community fighting to regain its traditional culture

A deeply researched 20-minute short film exploring the unprecedented establishment of a sovereign American Indian community and its lessons for the future.

From a primitive campsite to the Tribeca Festival

When filmmaker Mike Bradley and his wife went camping at Moss Lake, in New York’s Adirondack Mountains, in 2022, he was unaware of the remarkable history that had unfolded there almost fifty years earlier.

A historic marker there told the story of the summer camp for wealthy girls that had stood on the land for much of the 20th century, but a single sentence hinted at a period in the 1970s during which time Mohawk Indians occupied Moss Lake.

This sentence inspired the production of This Land, a short documentary film that explores the conditions that led to the founding of this community and its perseverance to the present day.

Nearly three years after that camping trip, This Land began screening at film festivals across the country, eventually playing at the Tribeca Festival in June 2025.
